Ready, Steady - David
and Tricia get set to Cook!
On
11th January, St. Andrew's members David and Tricia
Anderson went to London to record an edition of 'Ready,
Steady, Cook'.
At
Paddington, they were taken by car to the studio in
Wandsworth. There they were taken to a Green Room to
leave their clothes, before going to the canteen for
lunch. Then it was makeup and wardrobe, before being
taken to the studio and shown round the working areas
and finding the location of equipment and ingredients.
They met Ainsley Harriott and the chefs before entering
the studio for the recording, which began at 4 p.m.
Tricia cooked with Tony Tobin and her bag contained
smoked haddock, mature Cheddar cheese and streaky bacon.
David cooked with James Tanner and they had Gloucester
Old Spot pork fillet, egg noodles, cabbage and apple.
(Watch the programme to discover the other contents.)
The chefs do not know the contents of the bags
beforehand, though it may be that Ainsley does, or he is
given some indication of what to ask the chefs before
the ingredients are disclosed.
The
20 minute cooking time is exactly that. Inevitably there
are some retakes - especially if some bright spark
thinks that Taunton is in Devon! - but there are no
retakes of any of the cooking period. After tasting the
dishes the contestants, together with the chefs, leave
the studio whilst the audience cast their votes. The
votes are then counted. There were significantly more
cards of one colour, but David and Tricia say there were
no winners or losers as they brought home both the money
and the lovely hamper.
After the result, it was down to the canteen to continue
tasting the various dishes and then back to the studio
where the aprons were signed by Ainsley, James and Tony
and photos were taken. Finally, after changing back into
travelling clothes, it was back to Paddington by car and
the train home.
The
recording is scheduled to be shown on 16th March at 4.30
p.m. on BBC2, subject to confirmation.
