Greetings from Jim and Doreen
Greetings one and all.
Firstly
let me say how delighted I am to be called to serve at St Andrews. As a
family we are dreading the physical effort of moving but very much
looking forward to meeting you all. Thank you to all who have sent
letters of welcome and good wishes. One such letter asked for a brief
autobiography to be e-mailed to you, so here goes.
Briefly: I was born in Bridport and, after a short stay in London, grew
up in Shaftesbury. From there it was Lancaster University to study
French and then, after a brief period working as a care assistant, I
began my ministerial career following almost exactly in the footsteps of
Janet Fulljames: firstly at Queens College then as curate in Harborne,
here in Smethwick and finally soon, to Taunton. I hope she and Peter
consult with us first if they decide to move on!
Doreen
and I were at school together in Shaftesbury (4 years apart) but did not
get together until many years later, by which time she had trained in
Bristol and was starting out on a medical career which has culminated in
her post as a consultant in Selly Oak, specialising in breast radiology.
We have
3 children: Natasha (“ I like shopping, chatting and sports“) soon to
disappear off to university; Chloe (“I like the trampoline, videos and
painting”) going into year 6 and Thomas (“I like reading, videos and
Star Wars action figures”) into year 3.
The
younger children are a little anxious about moving as this is the only
home they have known but they are also looking forward to making new
friends.
At time
of writing there are no dates set but it looks like we might be moving
down at the end of August with the licensing later in September.
We look
forward to meeting you all.
Best
wishes,
Jim, Doreen, Natasha,
Chloe and Thomas
(and
hopefully still by then, Dash the gerbil).
Webmaster's note: it has
now been agreed that Jim's institution will take place in church on
Tuesday 2 October. Jim, 41, is currently the Vicar of Holy Trinity
Church, Parish of the Resurrection, Smethwick. His wife Doreen is a
Consultant Radiologist.
All of
us at St. Andrew's extend the warmest of welcomes to Jim, Doreen and
family, and look forward to getting to know them later in the
summer.
