Celebrating 125 years of serving
God in the heart of the community
10 July 2006
On Saturday 8th and Sunday
9th July it was open house at St. Andrew's and people from all around
the parish came to have a look around.
The continual stream of
visitors enjoyed a variety of displays, beautiful flowers, records and
plans of the church, items by the choir, and refreshments.
On the Saturday evening a
party to celebrate the anniversary was held in the church hall.
Everyone enjoyed a cheerful party atmosphere with wonderful food by
church member Liz, and magic entertainment from Nigel Ford. Julian
welcomed everyone including previous curates Margaret and David and read
out best wishes from others who were unable to attend.
On the Sunday, the St.
Andrew's bellringers succeeded in ringing a quarter peel to herald the
125th anniversary. A special anniversary cake, kindly provided by
a member of the congregation, showed photographs of the church,
including one of how it looked before it was extended.

Here is a clearer look at
the top photograph on the cake which shows the church as it was before
the new south aisle was added.

The oldest and youngest members of St Andrew's congregation cut the
anniversary cake at the celebratory All Age Service. Photo - (L to R)

In the evening, a large
number of people attended the Festal Eucharist at which the preacher was
Revd Prebendary Patrick Riley, a former Curate of St. Andrew's.
