A Guide to Lent 2006 at St. Andrew's

A Lent Collect

 

Almighty and everlasting God,

you hate nothing that you have made

and forgive the sins of all those who are penitent:

create and make in us new and contrite hearts

that we, worthily lamenting our sins

and acknowledging our wretchedness,

may receive from you, the God of all mercy,

perfect remission and forgiveness;

through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord.

 

March 1st - Ash Wednesday

10am Holy Communion

7.30pm Parish Communion

The imposition of ashes will be offered at both services

 

March 5th - Sunday - Lent 1

8am Holy Communion

10am Parish Communion

Collect:

Heavenly Father,

your Son battled with the powers of darkness,

and grew closer to you in the desert:

help us to use these days to grow in wisdom and prayer

that we may witness to your saving love

in Jesus Christ our Lord.

 

Readings: Genesis 9: 8-17; Mark 1: 9-15

March 8th - Wednesday

10am Holy Communion

 

March 9th - Thursday

7.30pm Holy Communion followed by

Lent talking point - Repentance

March 12th - Sunday - Lent 2

8am Holy Communion

10am Service for all ages

Collect:

Almighty God,

by the prayer and discipline of Lent

may we enter into the mystery of Christ's sufferings,

and by following in his way

come to share in his glory;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

 

Readings: Genesis 17:1-7 and 15-16; Mark 8:31-end

 

March 15th - Wednesday

March 16th - Thursday

7.30pm Holy Communion followed by

Lent talking point - Forgiveness

 

March 19th - Sunday - Lent 3

8am Holy Communion

10am Parish Communion

6pm United service at St. Peter's Church

Collect:

Eternal God,

give us insight

to discern your will for us,

to give up what harms us,

and to seek the perfection we are promised

in Jesus Christ our Lord.

March 22nd - Wednesday

March 23rd - Thursday

Holy Communion followed by

Lent talking point - Discipleship

March 24th - Friday

Victorian Day at school ending with Victorian Mothering Sunday service (time to be announced)

 

March 26th - Sunday - Lent 4

8am Holy Communion

10am Family Communion

Collect:

Merciful Lord,

you know our struggle to serve you:

when sin spoils our lives

and overshadows our hearts,

come to our aid

and turn us back to you again;

through Jesus Christ our Lord.

 

Readings: Numbers 21:4-9; John 3:14-21

 

March 29th - Wednesday

10am Holy Communion

 

March 30th - Thursday

7.30pm Holy Communion followed by

Lent talking point - Salvation
