INTERVIEWER |
JEREMY |
|
How long have you attended St Andrew's? |
Since 1978 |
|
What do you do? |
I'm a teacher
and writer |
|
What church activities are you involved in? |
I'm a Reader, P.C.C. member,
attend morning prayer' and organise home communions and services
in our residential homes (during our interregnum). I tutor on
the Exploring Christianity course; run a monthly meditation
group and am a member of some diocesan bodies. |
|
What are your five favourite things? |
in no special order: looking at paintings; conversation over
food; reading for pleasure & for teaching; walking & travel;
keeping & 'illustrating' a diary or journal. |
|
Can you describe a book you read recently in one sentence? |
"Word from
Wormingford" - (re-read) life in rural Suffolk, looking back but
bringing the present alive, in diary form, and in marvellous
prose |
|
What is your favourite television programme? |
Inspector Morse
or a good arts programme |
|
If you could have lunch with two well known people, who would you
invite? |
Rembrandt (to
ask him lots of questions) and
Sister Wendy (because she knows so much about modern art) - and to enjoy the conversation |
|
What is one of the most important things you have learned in
life so far? |
Love for me/us always prevails despite my/our waywardness & lack
of faith |
|
Why is your Christian faith important to you? |
It is the spiritual
equivalent to my daily food
It points me to God
and also to His world
It suggests the
values by which I try to live
It asks me to value
and love my neighbour and anyone I meet, as myself |
|
How does your faith affect the way in which you live your life
day to day? |
I can live in hope
not fear
I can smile not
scowl. With those I care for we can go forward not back
I can hand over
what I'm doing to God and not worry about the outcome or
tomorrow
By praying for
others I can help them |
|
What is special about St. Andrew's for you? |
It's my local
church where I've worshipped since 1978
It has given me the
chance to serve it as a Reader
We experience highs
and lows and face reality together
Prayers - our
prayers - move mountains
Many of my friends
belong to it |
|
If you could say one thing to someone thinking of coming to St.
Andrew's for the first time, what would it be? |
Relax into the
worship and please join in. We need your contribution |
