INTERVIEWER

JANET

How long have you attended St Andrew's? 3 years
What do you do? Retired priest
What church activities are you involved in? Leading worship and sometimes writing in the Parish Magazine
What are your five favourite things? Sitting in my garden, walking, doing family research, eating nuts, reading in bed
Can you describe a book you read recently in one sentence? 'My name is Red' by the Turkish writer Orham Pamuk.  This is a murder mystery set in artists workshops in 16th century Istanbul.
What is your favourite television programme? Time Team
If you could have lunch with two well known people, who would you invite? Jonathan Porritt and George Bush - it might help in the reduction of carbon emissions
What is one of the most important things you have learned in life so far? A child needs love and security and a confidence in their own abilities if they are to grow into mature adults
Why is your Christian faith important to you? The Christian faith teaches that each of us is valuable and loved by God, it enables us to love and to value others. It gives a vision for living now and eternally.  It enables us to live less selfishly, open to others and to God and his purposes for us and the created universe
How does your faith affect the way in which you live your life day to day? In very different ways.  I pray, I give time to voluntary work - one day a week at the local Citizens' Advice Bureau.  I try to think carefully about the use of my money: how to spend it, how much to give to the church and to charity.  I read and reflect on society and its problems, here and worldwide, and consider how we can create more peaceful and just communities.
What is special about St. Andrew's for you? The good quality of worship, including the music and a variety of people from many different backgrounds
If you could say one thing to someone thinking of coming to St. Andrew's for the first time, what would it be? Please stay and talk to someone so that you can get to know us and make friends
