Diocese publishes
environmental policy
News from
The Diocese of Bath and Wells - April 2007
The
Diocese of Bath and Wells, under the chairmanship of the
Reverend David Osborne, set up a working party to look
at environment issues. The aim was to draft a diocesan
environment policy concerning:
1. the
adoption of more environmentally friendly practices
within the diocesan organisation;
2. how
environmental audits can be carried out with regard to
the different kinds of work undertaken by the diocese;
3. how the
diocese can best support the work of the Somerset
Churches Together Sustainability Group and others
concerned to develop more environmentally friendly
practices within parishes and among church members;
4. how the
church in this diocese can best contribute to the local
and national debate on the environment and help develop
lifestyles and social practices which care for God's
creation;
5. how
mission initiates can engage with environmental concerns
(thus promoting the fifth of the Lambeth five Marks of
Mission: to strive to safeguard the integrity of
creation and to sustain and renew the life of the
earth).
At the
March 2007 Diocesan Synod the Working Party presented
its report which was endorsed by Synod.
