Serving God in the heart of our
community since 1881
St Andrew's Church,
Taunton
We
welcome you to our website
"
St. Andrew's is a community of celebration and of hope"
This is
how o
ne
of our church members recently described St Andrew's, and our aim is
for this website to capture that spirit online - our faith, our
worship, our people, and our community. We hope that you will enjoy
looking around, and will come back often, as the site is updated
every week.
Our church is first of all a spiritual centre, a place where
people can find God, be nourished in their spiritual journey, and
grow in their life of faith. If you could come along to one of our
services your presence would be a joy to us and to God.
If you have any questions or suggestions please do
contact us using the 'Get in Touch' button. You will find all
of our contact details there, including access to a location map. We
also love to know a little more about our web guests, and would
really appreciate it if you could take a moment to sign our Visitors'
Book.
If you
are interested in applying for the present vacancy of Vicar at St.
Andrew's you may like to look at our official Parish Profile here.
Again, welcome and thank you for visiting our
site.

Holy Week and Easter
at St. Andrew's
T
his year, rediscover the miracle of Easter
hope
Holy Week services
are the most powerful and moving of the church year. We are able
to share in the experiences of Jesus and his disciples during a
week that changed the world.
Palm Sunday
euphoria; betrayal and isolation on Maundy Thursday; the
shattering experience of Good Friday; Easter Eve – the
anticipation of something extraordinary; blazing dawn light and
pure joy on Easter Day.
It’s a journey
unlike any other. Challenging, moving, exhausting, transforming.
This Holy Week and
Easter
we warmly invite you to join us at St.
Andrew’s to rediscover the miracle of Easter
hope
We are delighted to welcome the Venerable Dick
Acworth to lead many of our services during this
week.
Quote of the
Week
“Those who write of the impact of Jesus upon them are
saying: ‘Look! Listen! A child is born and a man dies, and in the
story of that birth and that life, in images of water and bread,
in damaged lives healed and in people forgiven and set free, and
on a wooden cross and in an upper room a new way of living becomes
possible, a new creation is set in being, and a whole new
understanding of God is revealed.’”

This Sunrise of Wonder by Michael Mayne, available in the
Parish Library.
Gospel
for Sunday 1 April 2007
Luke 19:
28-40
After he
had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
When he had come near Bethphage and
Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of
the disciples, saying, ‘Go into the village
ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt
that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, “Why are you untying it?”
just say this: “The Lord needs it.”’
So those who were sent departed and found it
as he had told them. As they were untying the
colt, its owners asked them, ‘Why are you untying the colt?’ They said, ‘The Lord needs it.’ Then they brought it to Jesus; and after
throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their
cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching
the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the
disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all
the deeds of power that they had seen,
saying,
‘Blessed is the king who comes in
the name of the Lord! Peace in
heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!’
Some of the Pharisees in the crowd
said to him, ‘Teacher, order your disciples to stop.’ He answered, ‘I tell you, if these were
silent, the stones would shout out.’
During our
interregnum please join with all of us at St. Andrew's in our
Vacancy Prayer
Lord Jesus Christ, our friend and saviour, you promised to
be with us always, until the end of time.
We thank you for being with those whose vision led to the
founding of St Andrew’s Church.
We thank you for being with the men, women and children
who, since then, have filled the church with prayer, praise and
thanksgiving.
Be with us now as we live out today’s chapter in the story
of your people at St Andrew’s.
Be with
all those who carry the responsibility of leadership in our parish
life, especially Stephen and June, our Wardens, and all members of
our PCC. Help each of us to play our part; to love and serve
each other and, above all, to serve you in the heart of this
community.
We pray for all involved in the process of appointing a new
incumbent and for the person you are calling to join
us.
Help us to face the future with faith and courage; to keep
alive the vision that brought this church into being and to become
the people you want us to be.
Lord Jesus Christ, help us to trust in your love and
faithfulness and to serve you with joy and thanksgiving now and
always.
Amen.
