Serving God in
the heart of our community since 1881
St
Andrew's Church, Taunton
We welcome you to our website
"
St.
Andrew's is a community of celebration and of hope"
This is how o
ne
of our church members recently described St Andrew's, and
our aim is for this website to capture that spirit online -
our faith, our worship, our people, and our community. We
hope that you will enjoy looking around, and will come back
often, as the site is updated every week.
Our church is first of all a spiritual
centre, a place where people can find God, be nourished in
their spiritual journey, and grow in their life of faith. If
you could come along to one of our services your presence
would be a joy to us and to God.
If you have any questions or
suggestions please do contact us using the 'Get in Touch'
button. You will find all of our contact details
there, including access to a location map. We also love to
know a little more about our web guests, and would really
appreciate it if you could take a moment to sign our
Visitors' Book.
Again, welcome and thank you for visiting our
site.

Gospel Reading for
Sunday 19 August 2007
Luke 12:
49-56
Jesus the Cause of Division
‘I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and what stress I am under until it is completed! Do you think that I have come to bring peace to the earth? No, I tell you, but rather division! From now on, five in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three; they will be divided:
father against son
and son against father,
mother against daughter
and daughter against mother,
mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law
and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.’
Interpreting the Time
He also said to the
crowds, ‘When you
see a cloud rising
in the west, you
immediately say, “It
is going to rain”;
and so it happens.
And when you see the
south wind blowing,
you say, “There will
be scorching heat”;
and it happens. You
hypocrites! You know
how to interpret the
appearance of earth
and sky, but why do
you not know how to
interpret the
present time?
Gospel Reading for
Sunday 26 August 2007
Jesus Heals a
Crippled Woman
Now he was
teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. And just
then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled
her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite
unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called
her over and said, ‘Woman, you are set free from your
ailment.’ When he laid his hands on her, immediately she
stood up straight and began praising God. But the leader of
the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had cured on the
sabbath, kept saying to the crowd, ‘There are six days on
which work ought to be done; come on those days and be
cured, and not on the sabbath day.’ But the Lord answered
him and said, ‘You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the
sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead
it away to give it water? And ought not this woman, a
daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long
years, be set free from this bondage on the sabbath day?’
When he said this, all his opponents were put to shame; and
the entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things
that he was doing.
Quote of the Week
“If God meant anything at all to
me, it’d be something to do with love... I remember hearing in
a church or a film or something that God is love. And I
thought, yes, I can understand that. Love’s outside of religion
or morality; it is accessible. If it turned out that God was
something like that, then even I might have a place, I suppose.
And here with you lot, it seems almost possible, you know?”

Riddell, available in the Parish Library.
