Dear Sarah and Dave, thank you ever so much:
A
gift that’s alive, and so soft to the touch.
A
gift of a goat: what a lovely surprise!

I was stuck in this shop, a lone
goat among bears
(How horrid they were; they just
gave themselves airs).
It was Carol who found me and
took me away;
I was really excited. What fun!
Would she play?
But no, I was wrapped up in paper
so dark,
With no food at all: now how’s
that for a lark?

These grey winter
days – how they give me the blues!
It’s the time of
the year I could use a good cruise.
I can see myself
now, as ‘The Goat with a Boat’.
(He’s
just interrupted, with ‘Does a goat float?’

He’s walking the
Quantocks this fine afternoon.
He’ll come back
again – but I hope not too soon:
It’s when he goes
walking (he won’t take a dog)
It means I can
start the next bit of my blog.

We climbed in the
car and we drove up and down
And spent the
weekend near to Basingstoke town.
The house that we
stayed in had teddies galore,
Some penguins, a
dolphin, a duckling – and more:

This house is too
small, just a miniscule flat.
You can’t run

We travel again
towards Basingstoke town
To see the racoon
and the clown with a frown;
But first I have
something important to say
Concerning the
Stones that we pass on the way.

I’m down with
this bug that’s been going around.
I’m weak and I’m
sore, and I can’t make a sound.
He says I’ve
caught flu, but I cannot agree –
The way that I
look at it, flu has caught me.

Dear Goat
I do love your poems, they really are magic.
To give you no feedback would surely be tragic.
So here’s a short story, not written in prose,
About a day out, and the things that arose.

THAT GOAT!
'That goat'! What a fine name for a goat.
I see that you're using your name for your boat.
I wish I could come for a sail on the
moat,
to go for a float in a boat with a goat.

Jessica Jane,
Thank you for
coming here. Do come again!
When you were
here, there were walks on the hills,
Lunches at pubs,
and some take-away meals.

Instead of some
verses composed by That Goat
This time it’s a
poem that someone else wrote –
A poet who lived
quite a long time ago;
He lived in the
States, as perhaps you may know;
His name was J
Malins (he wasn’t a goat),
And this little
tale is the story he wrote:
