Prayer - does it make any difference
by
Philip Yancey
Reviewed by Mike Chapman of St. Andrew's Church
This is the latest book
from the pen of inspirational spiritual
writer Philip Yancey.
Prayer is something that most people struggle with. It poses many
difficult
questions and often results in answers that we weren't looking for -
questions like "Why doesn't God answer my prayer?" "If God knows all
things
why do we need to pray ?" "Does my prayer make any difference to an all
-
powerful God?"
Yancey deals with this important subject in his usual sensitive
non-prescriptive way, exploring these questions and others , drawing on
the
experience and wisdom of Christians well - known and unknown, past and
present and from a wide-ranging background. There are no easy answers
but in exploring the mysteries of prayer there are many encouragements
and
discoveries to be made. For me, one of these was to be reminded that in
spite of all that we know of God's character and being He wants us to
engage
with Him, expressing our emotions desires, anger, disappointments,
bewilderment etc as well as our love, gratitude, wonder and amazement.
Reading this book, 1 believe will help you as it has helped me in the
business of praying. There is a copy in the church library.
