INTERVIEWER |
ADRIAN |
|
How long have you attended St Andrew's? |
20 years but
with a few big gaps |
|
What do you do? |
I'm Compliance
Manager for a health insurance company |
|
What church activities are you involved in? |
Communications
Officer, webmaster, sidesman, one of the library team |
|
What are your five favourite things? |
Red wine
enjoyed with friends, cooking and eating good food, Venice,
reading, and J S Bach |
|
Can you describe a book you read recently in one sentence? |
"Velvet Elvis"
by Rob Bell. Extraordinary book that has completely
revitalised how I think about and practise my faith. |
|
What is your favourite television programme? |
The West Wing -
a perfect blend of drama, humour and masterful cinematography |
|
If you could have lunch with two well known people, who would
you invite? |
Paul Simon (for
my money one of the greatest poets and songwriters/singers of the
20/21st century) and Sir John Eliot Gardener (quite simply an
extraordinary musician and he seems a charming and modest man) |
|
What is one of the most important things you have learned in
life so far? |
I once read a
quotation from a nun who said "the only duty we have in life is
to become who we are". I think that's pretty good advice. |
|
Why is your Christian faith important to you? |
I think that we
are, essentially, spiritual beings having a physical experience.
Christianity reminds me that life is very important, but that
we're really just sojourners on the way to somewhere that will
be familiar when we arrive. Christianity is as good a
guide for the journey as any I've come across, and helps me
remember that I'm loved by God even if I'm going through a time
when I don't feel good about myself. |
|
How does your faith affect the way in which you live your life
day to day? |
It acts as a
focal point and a reminder of what is important in life. I have certain duties
as a Christian about how I treat my fellow human beings. I
often fall short of achieving these but at least I can try to do
better next time. |
|
What is special about St. Andrew's for you? |
Two things:
the diversity of people who form the church, and the depth,
richness and quality of worship which helps us transcend the
commonplace |
|
If you could say one thing to someone thinking of coming to St.
Andrew's for the first time, what would it be? |
Just come,
we'll save a seat for you! |
